SDGs万博市民アクションとは？
万博が開かれる2025年は、SDGs（持続可能な開発目標）の目標年である2030年まであと５年という区切りの年でもあります。博覧会協会も、2025年大阪・関西万博の目的の１つに「SDGs達成への貢献」を掲げ、次のように記しています。
国連が掲げる「SDGs（持続可能な開発目標）」達成の目標年である2030年まで残り5年となる2025年は、実現に向けた取り組みを加速するのに極めて重要な年です。
2025年に開催される大阪・関西万博は、SDGsを2030年までに達成するためのプラットフォームになります。
「SDGs万博市民アクション」は、この万博が本当にこの理念どおりSDGsの達成に貢献するものとなっているか、市民の側からチェックしようという取り組みです。関西を中心に活動する12の団体が集まって、2023年に活動がスタートしました。次の６つの分科会が動いています。
①市民参加・教育分科会
②資源循環分科会
③自然再生・生物多様性分科会
④交通・大気環境・まちづくり分科会
⑤環境・人権・気候変動に配慮した持続可能な調達分科会
⑥大学生と一緒に「万博のSDGs・平和・人権」を考える分科会
この「万博ごみゼロサイト」を運営している大阪ごみ減量推進会議も、②資源循環分科会のメンバーとして活動に参加しています。
今後、皆さんにご参加いただける催しなども企画していく予定です。

４．What is the SDGs Expo Citizen Action?
The year 2025, when the Expo is held, marks an important milestone—just five years remain until the 2030 target for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Recognizing this, the Expo Association has made “Contributing to the Achievement of the SDGs” one of the key objectives of the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo. They have stated the following:
The year 2025 marks a critical point, with only five years remaining until the 2030 deadline for achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This makes it a crucial time to accelerate efforts toward their realization.
The Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 will serve as a platform to drive action and innovation toward achieving the SDGs by 2030.
The “SDGs Expo Citizen Action” is a citizen-led initiative aimed at ensuring that the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 genuinely contributes to achieving the SDGs, as promised. This initiative serves as a watchdog, monitoring the Expo’s alignment with sustainability goals from a citizen’s perspective.
Launched in 2023, it brings together 12 organizations primarily based in the Kansai region. The initiative operates through six specialized working groups;
(1) Citizen Participation & Education Working Group
(2) Resource Circulation Working Group
(3) Nature Restoration & Biodiversity Working Group
(4) Transportation, Air Quality & Urban Development Working Group
(5) Sustainable Procurement Working Group – Ensures Expo-related materials and services consider environmental, human rights, and climate change factors.
(6) University & SDGs, Peace, and Human Rights Working Group
The Osaka Waste Reduction Promotion Conference, which operates the “Expo Zero Waste Site,” is also an active member of the Resource Recycling Subcommittee (2) within the SDGs Expo Citizen Action initiative.
